Internet Fire - Oh Noes!

Are you noticing a slower internet? That may be because of an explosion at The Planet, on of the larger internet hosting facilities in Houston Texas.
All in all, over 9,000 servers were affected by the explosion and fire. While data centers normally can use a backup generator to keep things running, fire officials made the Planet shut down their generators which left nearly 6,000 servers off-line. And when you consider that each server can host nearly a thousand sites, that’s a lot of sites that were off line.
The Planet has restored all but about 3,000 servers at this time and have promised to refund customers who suffered from the down time. All servers are expected to be back online in just a few hours.
This helps underscore the importance of redundant servers and backups. I hope you have a backup of all your website’s data, I know I…. uh, I better get busy
